Arab potter. Twenty complete or fragmentary lustreware vessels signed by Muslim are known. A fragmentary plate with birds in a floral scroll (Athens, Benaki Mus., 11122) is inscribed on the rim '[the work of] Muslim ibn al-Dahhan to please ... Hassan Iqbal al-Hakimi'. Although the patron has not been identified, his epithet al-Hakimi suggests that he was a courtier of the Fatimid caliph al-Hakim (reg 996-1021). The other pieces, bowls or bases from them, are decorated with animals, birds, interlaced bands, inscriptions and floral motifs. One complete bowl (New York, Met., 63.178.1) shows a heraldic eagle, a second (Cairo, Mus. Islam. A., 14930) has a central griffin surrounded by palmettes, and a third (Cairo, Mus. Islam. A., 15958) has a design of four white leaves surrounded by an inscription in kufic offering good wishes. Muslim also countersigned objects made by other potters and may have been the master of an important workshop. His work represents the zenith in the animal, floral and abstract decoration of Egyptian lustrewares of the Fatimid period (969-1171), for after him Fatimid potters increasingly depicted figural subjects
Violence
More than 30 people were arrested today after disorder broke out during a demonstration billed as a protest against Islamic fundamentalism.
A total of 31 people were detained in Birmingham city centre during the event, which is believed to have been organised on social networking sites.
A West Midlands Police spokesman said the arrests were made at various locations during the protest and a counter-demonstration organised by the Unite Against Fascism group.

The three unnamed men who have also been detained and charged appeared on the programme though they did not speak.

A Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, published 12 cartoons of the 'Prophet' Muhammad in September 2005. This seemingly innocuous decision preceded worldwide protests, death threats, trade boycotts and attacks on Danish embassies and a largedeath toll chiefly among the islamites themselves.
An outstanding scholarly account of these events is published this week, entitled The Cartoons that Shook the World by Jytte Klausen, a Danish academic in the US. Klausen dissects the motives of the main actors and illuminates debates over free speech and the place of religion in asian-colonised Western societies.
“We believe freedom of the press entails responsibility and discretion, and should respect the beliefs and tenets of all religions,” was thecraven appeasement and surrender by the United Nations after Danish diplomatic missions were torched.
The idea that people’s beliefs, merely by being deeply held, merit respect is grotesque. 'Western' society is based on freedom of speech and thought: it has no interest in its citizens’ feelings.
If it sought to protect sensibilities, there would be no limit to the abridgements of freedom that the principle would justify.
One of the odd things about the Muslim response to the cartoons was that the vast majority of Muslims worldwide never even saw the cartoons!!!
These Muslim maniacs rioted, assaulted and committed arson upon our people without even knowing the reason they were going bonkers!
Why is this? because Islam is a military system of people control. All that it took to get the Muslims rioting was for the hairy-faced Imams to screech that Mohammad and Islam had been insulted. The Muslims didn't need to know what the alleged insult was, all they needed was for the Imams to tell them to go berserk, which they do obligingly because it is "pleasing to Allah".
Nothing gets a Muslim more interested in killing, raping, burning or looting than does the idea that they can pave their way into Paradise in this way because it is "pleasing to Allah". But in fact, what is pleasing to Allah is that these Muslim assholes be deported to Arabia so they can properly pray to their desert god where the burning sands will keep them hopping.
